Agent & CLI
Let an AI agent prepare the data. Approve every change yourself.
The Mac app includes a command-line interface to your projects. An agent such as Codex or Claude Code reads invoices, meter readings and ERP exports, proposes the figures as a dry run and writes them only after you approve, with the same calculation and checks as the app.

What makes it safe to automate
The app's own logic
Commands use the same project model, calculation and validation as the app. There is no second set of rules to keep in step.
Dry run, approval, apply
Every change starts as a dry run. Only the exact proposal a person approved can be applied, and the approval lapses when the project changes.
Local access you control
The open app grants access to its encrypted workspace through a broker on your Mac. Switch it off at any time.
Ready for your agent
Prepare agent prompt writes the task for Codex or Claude Code from the files you choose; an optional MCP server offers read and preview tools.
Why not just let an AI write the report?
A general AI assistant can write a report that reads well, but it has to look for emission factors on its own. It can pick an unsuitable factor, mix up years or units, or fill a gap with a plausible guess, and nothing in the text shows where a figure came from. Asked twice, it may give two different answers.
In EnvironmentalReport the agent only reads the documents and proposes the input values. The calculation is done by the app, not by an AI model: fixed rules and a documented, versioned factor library, so the same inputs always give the same result. Where the app does not choose a factor automatically, the agent compares the options and a person decides; the choice and its reason are recorded.
The factors follow the country where the company operates, a detail a general AI easily misses. Electricity uses that country's AIB residual mix and, for the location-based figure, an official national source where one is built in, such as the Umweltbundesamt for Germany, RTE for France, ISPRA for Italy or OKTE for Slovakia; elsewhere the AIB production mix, labelled as a fallback. Road fuels use the national share of biofuels from Eurostat, and purchased heat uses the local supplier's own factor. Fuels follow DESNZ and global warming potentials follow IPCC AR6. Every factor carries its year and status.
The report is not a black box. Every calculated figure shows the activity, the factor with its source and year and the calculation, and the evidence annex lists the documents behind it. If an input is wrong, for example a misread invoice, the error stays visible and traceable, and a person approved the value before it was written.
How an agent works with the app
- In Agent / Command Line Access, switch access on and choose Prepare agent prompt
- Pick the source folders or files, and an existing project or Identify project from sources
- Paste the prompt into Codex or Claude Code; the agent reads the sources with its own tools
- The agent proposes each change as a dry run and shows you the project, year, source and effect
- After you approve, it applies exactly that proposal, recalculates, validates and reports what is still open
What the CLI covers
- Company details, setup and the reporting boundary
- Electricity, gas, fuels, vehicles, water and waste, with the energy and greenhouse gas calculation
- Scope 3 categories with factor discovery and a record of every factor choice
- Practices and policies (B2), social and governance disclosures and the questionnaire
- Evidence copied into the project with its fingerprint and linked to the figures it supports
- Email drafts and questionnaire requests that a person reviews and sends from the app
- Readiness checks, the read-only ESG data sheet for banks and the GHG inventory PDF
Data from ERP and SAP
For accounting data the CLI uses EDX, a structured exchange format: the agent prepares the package from the template, validates it and proposes the import, with units, currencies and sites mapped explicitly. EDX is an exchange, not a live connection: nothing is written back to your ERP.
What an agent cannot do
- Write anything without an approved dry run, or reuse an approval after the project has changed
- Edit project files, integrity seals or the audit trail directly
- Read keys, passwords or mailbox credentials; people enter credentials in the app
- Make up missing values, zeros, factors or evidence; a missing source never clears an existing value
- Send email, start Audit Ready or request an independent review without a specific approval
Where your data go
The app sends nothing to us. The broker exists only on your Mac, only while the app is open and access is switched on, and it never hands out the workspace key.
The agent is a separate program with its own provider. Whatever it reads, such as invoices or command results, it may send to its AI model under that provider's terms. Choose an agent and model whose data handling suits your company, or a model that runs locally.
Requirements
- The EnvironmentalReport app on a Mac, open, with its encrypted workspace unlocked
- Agent access switched on in Agent / Command Line Access; the command to copy is valid for the current session
- An agent that can run terminal commands, such as Codex or Claude Code, or an MCP host
- Folder access only for the folders a command reads or writes, confirmed by you in the system dialog
A session in the terminal
Commands from the Agent & CLI manual, shortened. In practice the agent runs them and shows you each dry run for approval.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to be a developer?
No. The app prepares the prompt for the agent, and you approve or reject the proposals it shows. Some familiarity with an agent such as Codex or Claude Code is enough.
How is this different from an AI that writes ESG reports?
A general AI writes the text and finds factors on its own, so its figures can be wrong without anyone seeing why. Here the agent only proposes the inputs; the app calculates them with fixed rules and documented factors that follow the company's country, and every figure shows its factor, source and calculation.
Can the agent change data without me?
No. Every change starts as a dry run and is applied only after a person approves that exact proposal. If the project changes in between, the agent needs a new dry run and a new approval.
Does it work on Windows or Linux?
Not yet. The CLI is part of the Mac app and works while the app is open. A Windows version of the app is in preparation.
Does the CLI produce the VSME report?
It prepares and checks the data and exports the ESG data sheet for banks and the GHG inventory PDF. The VSME report itself is prepared in the app, where a person reviews the final PDF before it is sent.
What does the MCP server offer?
Five tools for an MCP host: capabilities, workspace status, project list, years and a bounded command preview. It cannot apply changes or transfer files.
